Metallica Are Back! Here’s What You Need To Know About The Band

Posted by Anne-Sophie | November 18, 2016 | arch-MUSIC

Following 8 years away from the spotlight, Metallica are back with not one, but a double album. Considering the band has been around for 35 years, it’s hard not to wonder if the 80-minute long album will succeed in giving us the goose bumps we’ve all been waiting for and are accustomed to. Rest assured, the editors have listened to Hardwired…To Self-Destruct and it’s majestic. Aside from the 3 tracks released prior to the album (Hardwired, Moth Into Flame and Atlas,Rise!), the opus is packed with potential classics and pays a subtle tribute to their entire discography. Tracks ‘Dream No More’, ‘Now That You’re Dead’ and ‘Confusion’ demonstrate the band’s strong capacity to renew their art. Metallica are proud of where they’re from and the identity they have built over the years and ‘Hardwired…To Self Destruct’ proves their determination to thrive in a changed industry where careers are often over before they’ve begun. In short it’s that jaw-dropping album we didn’t expect to hear from a legend that, let’s face it, never fails to impress.

1-The Black Album is one of the best selling albums of all time

The self-entitled album released in 1991 is one of the best selling albums of all time having sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

2-Tennis or Drums?

Danish-born band member Lars Ulrich was a Tennis prodigy as a child. When he moved to Los Angeles at 16 his passion for music overshadowed his love for tennis. Not such a bad move considering Ulrich is one of the world’s best and most famous drummers.

3-Metallica currently holds a world record

Metallica entered the Guiness Book of World Records by playing on all 7 continents in one year. This includes Antarctica. See for yourselves.

4-The album Load is not composed of errr… paint

The cover of Load is a mixture of bovine blood and the semen of artist Andres Serrano.

5-There are 400 very rare copies of Ride the Lightening in the world

The French cover of Ride The Lightening, released in 1984 was misprinted. They printed the green cover instead of the blue cover, meaning there are only 400 green copies in the world and they are worth a small fortune.

6- James Hetfield appeared on South Park

In the South Park movie you can hear James Hetfield performing uncredited backing vocals on “Hell isn’t Good” as Kenny descends into Hell. James denied it at first but he was fooling no one.

7- Metallica are F*ing awesome
